The shops are open until late in the evening, during this time shopping people buy all the things that they have forgotten. </b></div> <bR> <div> <B>Besides, people like being out on Christmas Eve, when the streets and the shops are all lit up and everywhere there is a  fabulous atmosphere . </b></div> <div> <B>Before English children go to bed on Christmas Eve, they hang up a large Christmas stocking at the end of their beds. Santa Claus rides through the air and comes down the chimney and fills up the stocking with small presents. Children can find larger presents at the foot of their beds or under the Christmas tree.</b></div> <bR> <div> <B>Christmas trees in Britain are often decorated with fairy lights and all sorts of bright coloured ornaments. The holly hangs as a decoration in the rooms.</b></div> <div> <B>A sprig of mistletoe is hung in the room and if you catch a girl standing under it, you are allowed to kiss her. </b></div> <bR> <div> <B>The main social occasion  is Christmas dinner  on Christmas Day. When you tug at the two ends of this roll of coloured paper, the paper tears and the cracker explodes. Their traditional dinner is roast turkey and the Christmas pudding. Brandy is poured over the pudding and set alight, it makes a lovely blue flame . And the brandy is delicious!</b></div> <div> <B>Every Christmas Day the monarch addresses the nation and the Commonwealth on radio and television.</b></div> <bR> <div> <B>The day after Christmas Day is called Boxing Day from the custom in earlier times of giving postmen, milkmen and simmilar people some money which they collected in their "Christmas boxes".
